"The lighthouse at Yaquina Head on the Oregon coast stands as a silent sentinel to the glorious beauty of a sunset in 'Western skies'."
ARTIST COMMENT This is a small gouache painting on 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper. The sky is the dominant feature in the composition, with the lighthouse at Yaquina Head as the secondary element. My digital camera has become a very important tool in my research. Compared to film, the images I can capture are truer in color, and there is a greater range of light. Along with my sketches and color notes, when I begin to paint in my studio, I have everything I need to recreate the mood and atmosphere of the fleeting moment of the setting sun over the ocean To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
