| "The Sea"
"When you spend time observing the sea from the shore, you will see for yourself the many moods and actions of the ocean. From flowing foam to crashing rollers, 'The Sea' is an unending joy to behold."
ARTIST COMMENT What could be more basic than a rolling breaker to depict the shoreline of the sea? This scene is typical of the Pacific Ocean of northwestern Washington State. Specifically, the inspiration was the Kalaloch recreational area on the Olympic Peninsula. Even on a grey, overcast day, the water becomes translucent at the top of the cresting wave. Foam and splashes provide a vivid bright contrast to the dark water and rocks. I wanted to show the action of the foamy water as it swirls around the dark foreground rock and sinks into the wet sand.
