"As daylight fades and cormorants dry their wings, the 'sea is grey' to reflect the lowering sky."
Artist comment: "I like grey. I like black and white. And I like to match them up with deep sea green. In this original oil painting on linen canvas, I incorporated those elements and my love of the sea into a study of a monochromatic scenario. Starting with the sky, I set the tone with a grey-green overcast, bringing that color onto water and beach. Next the rocks were rendered with palette knife in a brownish black. I sketched, then painted the major wave, forward moving water, and areas of rolling foam and spattered sand. Lastly, I painted the patterns and runoff. The final touch was cormorants on the rock."
