"As the sky darkens and waves begin to swell and rise, a group of seagulls can be seen 'seeking shelter' from an onslaught of wind and rain."
Artist comment: "Painting the ocean and all it's mystery and awe is my avocation; my passion; my joy; my career. I have begun a series of stormy sea scenes for the fall/winter issue 2012 of 'Coast Explorer Magazine'. This is the first in that series. On a medium sized canvas (4' X 4'), I sketched the composition. With oil paint, I mixed grey, a deep black, two greens and a muted white. I began with the sky and foam shadows. Next, I painted the rocks with palette knife. I put in the birds, foam patterns, and lightest lights. Finally I articulated the runoff on the rocks."
