"The winter day lies heavily over the Pacific coast in northern Washington State. It looks like it may rain. A mysterious 'misty island' appears to nearly disappear beyond the offshore rocks."
Artist comment: "This is a scene from my recollection of a weekend trip to the shores of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The day was cool and threatening to rain. I wanted to portray that feeling in oil on linen canvas, using dark colors and a somber mood. Yet, there is a hint of the brightness of the day to come in the tossing foam and the warmth on the foreground rocks. The composition is my favorite 'z' arrangement of the island, rocks and waves. The floating foam patterns keep the scene airy; revealing the deep greens of the foreground water."
