"Under a dark sky, the 'green water' of the Pacific ocean at the northwest coast of Washington State tosses into frothy patterns on the surface."
Artist comment: "Living here near Washington state’s ocean shoreline, as an artist I have ample opportunity to observe the sea in it’s many moods. This results in a realistic interpretation, with oil on canvas, of the ‘green water’ I see so often. I began with a grey tone of oil paint and sketched the basic composition. Then (keeping in mind the end results that I wanted) I painted the sky. Working next with the darkest values, I painted the basic waves. Next I placed the ‘translucent’ tops, the grey troughs and clouds. Finally (as I refer to as the ‘icing on the cake’) I rendered the intricate foam patterns that are an integral part of the ocean’s mystique."
