"A group of offshore rocks at Fogarty Creek near Depoe Bay, is typical of many such geological features of the Pacific Northwest coast of Oregon. As the water rushes in between two large rocks, waves rise and crash and tumble into floating foam on the deep green water."
ARTIST COMMENT
This is another in a series of morning paintings. Fogarty Creek is a wayside along the Oregon coast, south of Lincoln City. At any given time, storms may change the sand and thus the flow of the creek that runs to the ocean there. The magnificent volcanic rocks, however, remain constant. I chose to emphasize the bright yellow green of the translucent wave against a deep blue sky. The gleaming white of the foam is a dazzling counterpoint to the deeper jewel-like tones. My substrate is fine linen canvas that allows me to get a very realistic, smooth effect with the oil paint.
