"Clam digging on the Pacific Northwest beaches is sometimes a 'father and daughter' past time."
Artist comment: "I have painted a series of clam digging scenes with pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper. Most of them have been overcast grey days, so I use a grey toned paper to enhance the mood and to expedite the completion of the background. In this scene, the figures seem dwarfed by the expanse of foreground sand and diminishing detail of the ocean. After completing the sea, sand, and sky, I focused on the clam diggers, using strong color to bring them out against the cool background. I finished with the reflections, the sand 'piles', and the buckets."
