| "Coastline"
"One of many exciting and memorable views
of the Northwest coastline, is seen here, looking southward from a wayside
park near Newport, Oregon. Crashing waves and soaring seagulls complete
a pleasant mood on a sunny summer day."
ARTIST COMMENT The Oregon coast has many wonderful and exciting scenes, and the places set aside to stop and view them. I am intrigued by the way the large fir trees grow so closely to the waters edge. In this oil painting on stretched canvas, I wanted to show the tenuous nature of the relationship of the trees to the constantly churning ocean. Even the clouds suggest an anxious feeling as if a storm may form as the tide rises, and the evergreens are threatened. Except for the confident soaring of the gulls and the sunlight clinging to the day, the mood may be one of despair. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
