"When the tide goes out on the Pacific Coast during clam season, the passionate ‘clamdiggers at sunset’ linger longer."
Artist comment: "Since I moved to the Pacific Northwest coast, I have made a large segment of my art career dedicated to the pasttime of the art of digging for razor clams. I not only indulge in this great adventure, but make paintings of it. Here with soft pastel on textured canson Mi-Teintes paper, I have rendered one such memory. I began with a sketch on a softly colored sheet, placing the horizon on the upper third quadrant. Carefully making note of the sun and it’s reflection, I painted the figures in silhouette with barely a hint of color. A few final lines for the reflections and an added stroke of light here and there, then my signature."
