| "Cannon Beach Panorama"
"Walking the sandy shore of the Pacific
ocean at Cannon Beach, Oregon, will be a memorable experience for many
reasons. The most powerful of these is the panoramic view of the
ocean, dominated by Haystack Rock and it's companion rocks, with Tillamook
Rock Lighthouse in the distance."
ARTIST COMMENT This watercolor was painted on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper. I wanted to express the mood of the awesome expanse of sea, sand, and sky, broken only by the intermittant up-cropping of volcanic rocks in the surf. The familiar Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon, is the center of interest. It's immensity is exemplified by the tiny figures that appear on the shoreline. I chose a southerly viewpoint, placing the Haystack Rock to the far right of the composition, and balanced it on the left with the smaller, companion rock and the intense blue of gathering storm clouds. An added bonus is the distant Tillamook Rock lighthouse. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
