"The ocean swells rise and recede as they rush toward the beach. Reaching the shallows, the momentum of the water pushes over the top and spills as a perfect 'breaking wave'."
Some of my most pleasant memories are of winter days walking the shoreline of the ocean; felling a soft misty rain on my face, with the roar of the crashing waves surrounding my spirit. The Pacific coast of Oregon and Washington afford many such opportunities. The scenes I paint are from my memory. In this painting I wanted to recapture the feeling of a wet grey day with the music of the rolling breakers accompanying my footsteps on the sand. There is just enough light in the overcast sky to punctuate the foam and splashes as waves tumble continually to shore.
