"Beached Buoy" by Carol Thompson

"A beached buoy lies in the surf at the edge of the sea, having been torn loose from its mooring during a recent storm."

Artist comment:  "One day, as my husband and I walked on the beach near Westport, Washington, we heard a sad moaning sound repeating regularly.  Naturally curious, we followed the sound to see a 'bell buoy' lying on its side in the surf.  With each wave the buoy emitted that sound.  It was a fascinating subject to paint in oil  It is sort of quirky and fun.  I like the 'hot' red surrounded by all that blue, and the black base adds a feeling of 'weight' to the subject.  The bands of beach and wave repeat the linear lines in the composition, while the splash breaks them up."
