"'Another Sunset' splashes its brilliant hues from zenith to horizon and reflects down on the surface of a quiet sea. Three gulls glide as silhouettes against the brightness of the sky."
Sunsets over the ocean, if repeated too often by the artist, may become mundane and lose the fresh qualities that drew them to the scene initially. I, for one, never tire of painting in oil, on stretched canvas, the magnificence of nature in her "party dress". This time the sea was awash with reflected light from the brilliant clouds long after the sun had disappeared below the horizon. There is very little water showing, and no rocks, so the simple composition depends on the positioning of the three seagulls for interest. The marvelous coloring, and dramatic cloud formations were painted with a set of only three bristle brushes. The small painting was a quick study that became a complete painting with just a minute amount of time and effort.
