"As you stand on the beach watching the sea, 'a sudden splash' startles you and you observe a shower of water crashing upon an offshore rock."
Artist comment: "There are numerous rocks just off the beach on the coastline of the Pacific from Canada to California (and most likely beyond). It has been my joy and privilege to have stood and watched the ocean roll in and 'connect' with these unyielding monoliths. In this oil painting on canvas, I have rendered from memory one such occasion. I can still hear the roar of the sea. I began with an oil sketch of the scene, paying careful attention to design elements, that is balance, weight, color, etc. I like a sunny day when the sky is blue, the foam white, and the water 'sea-foam' green! After painting sky and ocean, I put in the rock with a palette knife. When the rock was dry, I painted the trickling runoff."
