"On Commencement Bay in Tacoma, Washington,
stands this diminutive light, in service since 1887. It is located in a
lovely neighborhood park; a great place for a family picnic. Oscar Brown
was the first lighthouse keeper and his decendants still live in the keeper's
quarters on the grounds."
Artist comment: "Brown's Point Light on Puget Sound near Tacoma is a vital aid to navigation for marine traffic. For this painting, I used oil on canvas. I began with a quick sketch of the subject. To assure accuracy, I researched the lighthouse and took multiple photographs. I referred to this material during the drawing and painting process. When the background was completed, I painted the structure and setting, finishing with the light, the antennas, and the fence."
