"Admiralty Head Lighthouse" by Carol Thompson

Admiralty Head Lighthouse

"In 1897, the present structure was built north of a gun emplacement at Fort Casey on Whidbey Island, Washington. No longer needed as a guide to navigation, this magnificent building is a museum and tourist attraction. to celebrate the 200th anniversary of North American Lighthouses, Admiralty Head was the subject for a U.S. postage stamp."

Artist comment:  "Visiting lighthouses is a passion for me.  Finding them and seeing them for myself is an imortant factor.  I prefer to depict a lighthouse from a 'fresh' perspective that is not seen on postcards or on tourism brochures.  I paint the subject with oil on canvas allowing me the option of rendering fine detail."
