| "The Umpqua Lighthouse"
"The Umpqua lighthouse beams red and white flashes out over sand dunes and clear ocean waves for more than 20 miles, to guide mariners, as she has for over 200 years. The solid tower sets within Umpqua Lighthouse Park, off Highway 101, near Winchester Bay, Oregon."
ARTIST COMMENT Whenever I travel the Oregon Coast Route, Highway 101, I make a point to stop off at Winchester Bay to visit this wonderful lighthouse. There is something about the strong sturdy construction of the tower that inspires confidence and courage in me. I enjoy the view from the Park that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. This gouache painting is the second time I have painted the Umpqua River Lighthouse, and I chose the angle that is seen as you approach from Winchester Bay, up the hill to the living quarters of the Coast Guard men and women that keep her light ever bright.
