ARTIST COMMENT Whenever I have the opportunity to travel in this great Pacific Northwest, I take akong a sketch book and a digital camera. So often there will be occasion to stop and photograph some romantic, or interesting scene. Sometimes a single tree will stand out. As in this painting, a moment of resplendent beauty touched my soul. A May afternoon, with rapidly dispersing clouds dominated the pastoral locale. I chose a sheet of neutral light gray Canson Mi-Tientes to moderate all the bright green leaves and colorful clouds. I employed a zig-zag rhythm of white flowers in the foreground to lead the eye to the break in the hedgerow which gains access to the towering, magnificent tree.
