"A multi-colored, multi-winged box kite
floats delicately on the late afternoon breeze of an early October day.
The sun glints on the rolling Pacific Ocean surf, turning sky and sea soft
colors and creating a stained-glass effect to the kite. Dancing acrobatic
kites maneuver in the background."
Artist comment: "The late season kite festival draws kite flying enthusiasts from around the globe. Some come to display their creations while others come to ooh and ahh over the beauty in the sky. From dawn to nearly dusk, there are kites of all sizes and shapes. In this oil on canvas, I chose a vignette of one such glimpse. A family prepares to fly their own kite while watching the hovering box kite. I painted this moment with oil on canvas, using purple and pink to depict the time of day. Then I rendered carefully all the brilliant stained glass colors of the box kite and finished with the people and their shadows on the beach."
