"Pink Roses En Plein Air" by Carol Thompson
"What a pretty sight! 'Pink roses en plein air' glow in the sunlight of a summer day."
Artist comment: "I chose these 'pink roses' as my subject while on a 'paint-out' with a group of artists. I minimalized the composition by including just five major blooms and two buds in a triangle composition. With oil on a canvas board, I quickly painted a neutral background in cool tones, highlighting a few leaf shapes. Then with a light pink tone, I put in the petals with single broad strokes. I used a darker tone to articulate the petals shadows. A few tiny dots of that same dark pink indicate the center of a wide open rose."
