"Purple Glow" by Carol Thompson

"While strolling in spring through a forest glade in the Pacific Northwest coastal area, you may come upon an unexpected 'purple glow'."

Artist comment:  "Hardy and showy, the coastal rhododendron is Washington State's official flower. A group of Washington women in 1892 (before women had the right to vote) selected the 'rhodie' to enter in a floral exhibit at the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair. Women around the state voted between the rhododendron and clover blossom. The big winner -- the 'rhodie'. In this pastel painting on Canson Mi-Teintes paper, I have depicted the vivid color and elegant beauty of the purple rhododendron native to Washington. I started the painting 'en plein aire' and completed it in my studio."
