| "Pink Foxglove"
"A tall 'pink foxglove' nods on its slender
stalk. Each dainty bell invites bees and humming birds to partake
of the generous nectar."
ARTIST COMMENT The pink foxglove is the most commonly seen foxglove. When I started my first Washington State garden, I gathered seeds from them when I saw them along side the roads here. I learned they are bi-annual; They grow the first year, and bloom the second year. With this medium sized watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper, I started a series of paintings of wild (and hybridized) foxgloves. I wanted the background to imply the setting of a cleared area with distant forest. The cool greens and deep rich browns were employed as a foil for the delicate pink "polka dotted" blossoms. The subject of the painting was layered as is my custom. To learn more about the artist "painting florals", please click

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax. |
