"Dogwood"

"Cool 'dogwood' blooms rest easily against a vivid early morning glow.  These hardy flowers last a long time, whether on the branch or as cut flowers."

ARTIST COMMENT
In Washington State, and elsewhere I'm sure, there are numerous indigenous dogwood trees.  Their Spring blossoms are a welcome sight after long, wet, grey winters.  This small watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper started as an image for a T-shirt at the request of a client.  I recently "rediscovered" the painting and decided to fill in the background and make limited editions from it.  I chose to emphasize the softness of the blossoms by creating a strong dark corner, diffusing into sunlight yellow on the opposite corner.  The result is the impression of morning, as the rising sun is about to shine upon the blooms.

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax.
