| "Pink Dogwood"
"When the pink dogwood tree blossoms, the
intense color seems to radiate widely. From diminutive bush to tall
graceful tree, this beauty is one of my favorite Spring accents."
ARTiST COMMENT Here, in this small watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper, I start to explore the beauty of the blossoms of the pink dogwood tree. In contrast to the rich pink, I painted the background a cool yellow green. Then at the center of interest, I deepened the background to a rich brownish-green to counterpoint the lightest light of the main flowers, the ones at the bottom left. The composition is an inverted "C" with the topmost flower in the upper left quadrant as a balance to the body of the piece. To learn more about the artist "painting florals", please click

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax. |
