| "A Field Of Daisies"
"You know summer is in full swing when you
pass a 'field of daisies'. It makes you want to kick off your shoes
and stroll through the bloom ARTIST COMMENT Like many of you, I have a lifelong love of daisies. They are dainty, yet enduring (Just try to weed them out of your yard once they have established themselves!). And have you ever plucked the petals saying to yourself, "He (she) loves me, he (she) loves me not"? This medium sized watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper, is a favorite of mine. First, it was easy to paint. Second, it shows the daisies as I love them, almost all of them fully opened and nodding in the bright summer sunshine. The composition is like the flowers themselves, wild and wonderful with no "perfect" design. However, to make a good painting, I paid attention to the darkest darks and lightest lights. I painted the deep blue background in a diagonal across from the center to the right hand side, the warm brown as a triangle in the lower left quadrant, and the pink-purple-light-blue combination on the upper right. These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax. |
