| "Daisies Too"
"Your garden has a lot of lovely flowers.
Some are tall and elegant. Some are short and flashy. Every
summer day you enjoy the color and the 'daisies too'."
ARTIST COMMENT If you can't have a whole field of daisies, the next best thing is to grow bunches of them in your yard. This small watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper shows a few Shasta daisies in a grouping. the blooms are fully open on a very warm summer day. The background is a very intense blue to offset the vivid white of the petals, and the bright green leaves and stems. The composition is a modified "O" with emphasis on the two large blossoms on the bottom. As your eye circles the painting, you will rest momentarily on the upper left bloom, where the darkest dark and lightest lights meet. This is the focus of the piece. Then let yourself view the other interesting shapes and values of the entire scene. To learn more about the artist "painting florals", please click

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax. |
