"Accent"

"A creamy yellow daffodil with pink fringes and picotee edges is a startling accent in your Spring garden."

ARTIST COMMENT
The "accent" here is on the unusual pink picotee fringe of this remarkable daffodil.  When this one bloomed in my garden, I was completely enchanted and knew it had to be painted.  I used Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper.  I focused on just one blossom.  The background was kept simple, to allow me to concentrate on the glory of the color and subtle shadings within the flower.  I used a layering technique to intensify the deeper tones, while still holding the translucency of the outer petals.  I enjoy that kind of capability with watercolor, especially for florals.

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax.
