"The King"

"'The King' Alfred daffodil is universally popular in spring gardens.  Easy to grow, most welcome after long cold days, and prolific reproducers.  If you haven't yet experienced King Alfred doffodils, you have a treat in store for you."

ARTIST COMMENT
In this small watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper,  I designed a very simple "triangle" composition, to emphasize the singular drama of a magnificent King Alfred Daffodil.  The background includes several hues of blue, to "cool" the hot yellow, and to also play up the green and brown of the leaves and stems.  The angle of light is far to the right,  creating deeper shadows on the buds and bloom.  This serves to emphasize the vivid highlight on the ruffled edge of the flower's trumpet.

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax.
