"Cat Nap"

"On a lazy summer afternoon the time is perfect (as is any time) for a 'cat nap'. But note! One eye is almost open and the ears are always alert."

ARTIST COMMENT I am a 'cat' person. Perhaps you are as well. In that case, you can relate to the warm late summer afternoon, when the family cat settles down for a quick nap in the soft leaves beneath its favorite tree. I composed the painting with the cools and warms divided horizontally, purposefully centering the subject . I wanted, also to indicate a light cream-colored coat shining in the sunlight. You will see (upon closer inspection) that there are pinks, lavenders, yellow and blue in the fur. It was intriguing to punch up the complimentary colors: yellow-green against purple-blue in the surrounding background and foreground. I used bright white 80# cover stock paper to permit me to present the cat as a soft, delicate creature.
