"Iron Lady" by Carol Thompson

"The sky is overcast as the fishing vessel 'Iron Lady' makes her way home up the Columbia River after a good day's catch.

Artist comment:  "While 'boat spotting' from under the Astoria-Megler bridge over the Columbia River, I watched this sleek gorgeous fishing vessel as she approached my location. I photographed and studied her for a pastel painting that I would do later in my Ocean Park, Washington studio. I used Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper and completed it in late 2014. The F.V. 'Iron Lady' is Captained by Kevin Dunn and has a crew of three plus a federal observer. She was built by Quality Marine in Theodore, Alaska in 1980. She is owned by William and Patricia Bisbee. Her homeport is Warrenton, Oregon; hailing port Seattle, Washington. The 'Iron Lady' brings home fish, crab, and shrimp. She was featured in a recent H.B.O. segment about sustainable marine harvests. She is an iron 'lady' indeed!
