| "Three Windmills"
"On a high windy hill in south central Oregon, three vintage windmills stand ready to catch the wind of the oncoming storm."
ARTIST COMMENT "These are but three of the 17 windmills collected by John Cox of Eagle Point, Oregon. The center one with the flexible blades is an open vaneless Elgin Hummer made for really windy areas. It keeps opening up to compensate for the wind velocity. The counter weight is a solid metal chicken. On the right is an Elgin Model A Wonder, made in Elgin, Illinois, about 1912. On the left is a mid-height mill called the Challenge. The setting was a stormy summer day with a lightning and thunder storm approaching. The vibrancy and immediacy of soft pastel allowed me to capture the fleeting moment before the sun was obscured and the storm struck with all its' fury." |
